12.06.2008: New semantic features

In May and June 2008 Ontos participated as an exhibitor on the two main conferences in the area of Semantic Technologies: The Semantic Technology Conference in San Jose and the European Semantic Web Conference in Tenerife. Ontos presented its new Semantic Business Portal and a set of new features including an iPhone interface, new personalized RSS feeds and a plug-in for Outlook. Another highlight that was presented is the easy-to-use web widget which can be integrated into existing web pages. After processing the content of pages, Ontos automatically identifies entities like people, companies and citations and the relations between them and aggregates this new meaningful content into a knowledge base. The widget then shows this new related content based on mark up and hyperlinks within your web page. This solution increases page views and time-on-site which is a great value for publishers and media companies. For an example, see the box on the right side of this page.

In San Jose, Ontos' CEO, Daniel Hladky, had a one-hour speech about Semantic Business Intelligence.

26.03.2008: CeBIT 2008 Report

Our Russian partner Avicomp Services has just returned from Hannover where it participated in CeBIT 2008, one of the world’s most influential fairs showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for work and home environments. There the company presented the newest business solutions in the framework of the Semantic Web, the most challenging and revolutionary research area in web-technologies. Its stand included the Semantic News Portal (in Russian and English), the Unstructured Information Processing Workbench, and the Content Semantization Service for web-resources and corporate data repositories.

One key area that has been demonstrated was the possibility to create semantic content and automatic semantic annotations for web pages. The proposed solution showed how easy it is to integrate semantics into existing web pages, and highlighted the need of information workers to access data in a flexible way in order to gain knowledge. The two semantic portals http://news.ontos.com and http://biz.ontos.com just give a flavor of the possibilities of extracting and recognizing data in a fully automatic mode.

Our partner was leaving Hannover with many contacts from Europe and the Far East which have shown a big interest in the semantic web solution. A very promising intuition that they have captured at CeBIT is that there is a rapidly increasing interest among various businesses in innovative intelligent technologies for analyzing unstructured data.

03.02.2008: Partnership with SAP

Ontos becomes IVN partner of SAP AG. Another important milestone in the Ontos history has been reached today. Ontos has been selected amongst others as a partner inside the SAP Industry Value Network, especially in the area of public security. Ontos and SAP have developed for the SAP Public Security solution a prototype which allows to visualize information in the master data, especially from the CRM system. The solution is targeting police forces, investigation units and intelligence agencies. The solution was build on the SAP NetWeaver platform and Ontos has used the Tais/Ontos solution set for the integration. Ontos will also contribute with their knowledge in the field of semantic web technologies, especially in the area of automatic information extraction from text. The SAP IVN ecosystem shows the importance of this industry area and first customer successes have been realized. The IVN team will be meeting on regular base to exchange knowledge and market trends for public security.

22.11.2007: Article on Ontos in the magazine "Öffentliche Sicherheit"

In the november issue of the magazine of the austrian department of interior "Öffentliche Sicherheit" an article on Ontos has been released to the public.

20.09.2007: Ontos launches semantic news portal

Ontos launches a new type of News Portal on news.ontos.com. It is based on semantic technologies and allows to find information in a very focused way. A very high news density and quality is guaranteed by an automated process, that daily analyses current news from the Internet in a semantic way. The portal also allows to generate a summary for selected objects. The summary contains extracted information from different sources.

Starting from the News Portal the Internet can be navigated semantically. Ontos provides a respective plug-in for the Internet Explorer.

14.09.2007: Ontos on TV - "Top Secret"

The German television company "Bayerirscher Rundfunk" created the documentation "Top Secret" where intelligence service employees, secret agents and other experts give an overview of the spying business. They also show modern technologies for information retrieval: in the third part of the documentation (11th of October 2007 on ARD) they present the Ontos software solution.

05.06.2007: Ontos under Discussion with the Police in Kaliningrad

The BDK invited a delegation of the police in Kaliningrad, under the direction of Mr. Aleksandr Turivnenko, general of the Police Department West, to Berlin for a workshop on June 2, 2007. Kaliningrad’s role in East-West-Trade requires for example methods of cross-border crime abatement and prevention. Ontos presented in the workshop its software solutions.
The solution TAIS Ontos, which shows the whole work scope of an investigation and analysis process of the police, especially aroused the audience’s interest. Further discussions were agreed.

01.06.2007: Solution for "Semantic Web"

During a speech at the conference ESTC2007 in Vienna Ontos presented a solution for the field of "Semantic Web". One part of the solution is a process, which automatically semantically analyses any web sites and serves as basis for a following semantic search, navigation or summary.

Persons well-known in the industry from the USA and various European states participated in the first European Conference for Semantic Technologies. The key aspects of the conference are analyzed in an article in the Observer, to which Ontos also vastly contributed.

30.05.2007: Ontos in Competition Intelligence

Under the headline “Open Sources Intelligence, Data Mining, Social Network Analysis in Competition Intelligence” Günther K. Weisse describes possibilities of the employment of Ontos software. The article is based on the conference EUROSINT (European Forum for Open Sources Intelligence) which took place in Brussels on April 17, 2007.

May 2007: Ontos presents Solution for Bank

In a convention of the delegates for money laundering of the member institutions of the Federal Association of Public Banks Germany (VÖB) Ontos introduced a solution, which checks natural or legal persons in publicly available sources of information and recognizes relations to other persons (or institutions), which are listed as dubious with respect to money laundering issues. If such a relation exists the Ontos solution analyses the data and automatically generates reports with corresponding warnings. Further information you find here.

12.02.2007: SAP demonstrates integration with Ontos

SAP demonstrated its Public Security Solution on the 10th European Police Congress in Berlin. A part of this solution is an integration with Ontos. SAP passes data via SAP XI to Ontos in order to perform a visual analysis. SAP and Ontos are planning to implement further scenarios within the current year.

01.11.2006: Launch of Semantic Information Portal

Ontos launches it's Semantic Information Portal ontosearch.com. The portal provides general information and examples regarding semantic search and navigation.

October 2006: Medical portal semantically annotated

The medical portal Medtrust uses Ontos technologies to annotate all information automatically. More than 84.000 pages were semantically annotated. A special browser allows to find information by navigating the annotations. More information here (Russian language only).
