01.09.2010: Clip & Share
During the 6th International Conference on Semantic Systems Ontos presents a browser plug-in that not only allows to clip and assemble text fragments from any website, but provides the possibility to enrich these fragments with RDFa automatically. Clip & Share was nominated for the triplify challenge.

07.04.2010: Contribution to "Semantic Web"
Ontos and its partner AviComp have contributed to the book "Semantic Web". The book is published online at

Main contribution are for chapter 3 and chapter 4. They can be downloaded for free in PDF format.
05./06.05.2010: Semantic Web Day (2010), Leipzig
Ontos will take part at the second Semantic Web Day in Leipzig. The event is organised by the AKSW group of the University Leipzig led by Dr Sören Auer.
The focus of the Ontos presentation will be the Ontos API which allows to create semantic annotations for text. Besides an introduction on how to use the API the demo will also show examples. For more information about the event click here.
01.03.2010: Ontos API for the AI Mashup Challenge by ESWC 2010
ESWC 2010 is organising an AI Mashup challenge - the deadline for submission is April 1, 2010. One of the AI Mashup tools proposed by ESWC is Ontos. More information about ESWC and the AI Mashup Challenge can be found here.
25.11.2009: Semantische Wikis - die Zukunft im Unternehmen?
Ontos is invited to talk at the event “Semantische Wikis” and share the experience related to the NanoTrack portal. NanoTrack is a semantic portal based on MediaWiki. The portal collects and aggregates data from various sources and different languages. The project was started in early 2009 and has different user groups. The sources that are automatically analyzed using different ontologies are from patents, news articles, scientific papers and blogs. The aim of the project is to support decision making process and provide a semantic business intelligence to the research team, the management and to lawyers.
18. - 20.11.2009: NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Web Intelligence and Security
Daniel Hladky from Ontos is invited as a key speaker to the NATO Advanced Research Workshop related to Web Intelligence and Security. Daniel will be speaking on the 18th of November about the discovery of shadow groups from the dark web. The emphasis of this talk will be on the experience with ontology driven information extraction related to the discovery of shadow groups. Further Daniel will share some scientific challenge related to the unique identifier when comparing and merging named entities. The scientific papers will be published by IOS Press.
29.10.2009: Einführung ins Semantic Web, Frankfurt am Main
Daniel Hladky from Ontos is invited to give a presentation about Knowledge Portals at the user group “Semantic Web”. The focus of the presentation will be on state of the art semantic web technologies that are available today. Focus will be on semantic annotation of text using ontology driven information extraction, RDF store and scalability, multilingual access to semantic information and integration to existing platforms. 20.07.2009: Ontos API in Beta
At the Semantic Technology conference 2009 (SemTech09) Ontos announced its new API. Today the service was launched in Beta and will allow developers to create semantic metadata with the OntosMiner in English, adapt the NLP process to their personal needs and access the full functionality of the semantic data store.
With this new API Ontos offers to the developer community the possibility to implement own applications without having to think on how to create semantic metadata and without taking care on how to store information in a RDF database. This unique approach gives a great flexibility to create semantic solutions that are based on open standards promoted by W3C. With the API the user can already access over 400’000 articles that have been semantically annotated. In a first stage only a selected number of Beta Users will have access to the service. During 2009 the API service will be continuously extended. On the roadmap are further languages like German, Russian and French. By late 2009 the free API service will be extended and will include not only read access to the RDF store but will also have write functions. Further Ontos will provide the possibility to setup a complete own infrastructure including the possibility to define own sources for crawling, own RDF store and more.
14. - 18.06.2009: Semantic Technology Conference, San Jose/California
Ontos will be present at the Semantic Technology Confernce in San Jose, California between 14. and 18.06.09. Ontos will be giving two lectures related to semantic technologies. It is also planned to launch the new Ontos API during the conference. Ontos also acts as a sponsor and will be present at the exhibition with a booth (#309).

10.12.2008: Monitor and compare how you and your competition are seen in the online news
Ontos is stepping into the field of media and internet monitoring using chart functions that allow you to compare the own company with competitors, business partners or other objects of interest. Just add the objects of interest into the My Objects frame and select the ones that you like to compare. You can compare who has been mentioned more in the online media by the number of documents or facts or compare the objects by sentiment analysis. We will add more chart functions during early 2009. We are continuously adding new sources and extending our engine for information extraction. The result is more in-depth understanding of the news. 24. - 26.09.2008: ESTC2008 in Vienna, Austria
Ontos is sponsor and exhibitor at the ESTC 2008 conference in Vienna. Further Ontos will demonstrate on September 24 in the afternoon session a customer case dealing with semantic annotation and services for publishers. At the booth we will show our new solutions including a plug-in for Outlook, a new version of the business portal and the new web widgets that can be used within an web page including for example iGoogle.
12.06.2008: New semantic features
In May and June 2008 Ontos participated as an exhibitor on the two main conferences in the area of Semantic Technologies: The Semantic Technology Conference in San Jose and the European Semantic Web Conference in Tenerife. Ontos presented its new Semantic Business Portal and a set of new features including an iPhone interface, new personalized RSS feeds and a plug-in for Outlook. Another highlight that was presented is the easy-to-use web widget which can be integrated into existing web pages. After processing the content of pages, Ontos automatically identifies entities like people, companies and citations and the relations between them and aggregates this new meaningful content into a knowledge base. The widget then shows this new related content based on mark up and hyperlinks within your web page. This solution increases page views and time-on-site which is a great value for publishers and media companies. For an example, see the box on the right side of this page.

26.03.2008: CeBIT 2008 Report
Our Russian partner Avicomp Services has just returned from Hannover where it participated in CeBIT 2008, one of the world’s most influential fairs showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for work and home environments. There the company presented the newest business solutions in the framework of the Semantic Web, the most challenging and revolutionary research area in web-technologies. Its stand included the Semantic News Portal (in Russian and English), the Unstructured Information Processing Workbench, and the Content Semantization Service for web-resources and corporate data repositories.
One key area that has been demonstrated was the possibility to create semantic content and automatic semantic annotations for web pages. The proposed solution showed how easy it is to integrate semantics into existing web pages, and highlighted the need of information workers to access data in a flexible way in order to gain knowledge. The two semantic portals http://news.ontos.com and http://biz.ontos.com just give a flavor of the possibilities of extracting and recognizing data in a fully automatic mode.
Our partner was leaving Hannover with many contacts from Europe and the Far East which have shown a big interest in the semantic web solution. A very promising intuition that they have captured at CeBIT is that there is a rapidly increasing interest among various businesses in innovative intelligent technologies for analyzing unstructured data.

03.02.2008: Partnership with SAP
Ontos becomes IVN partner of SAP AG. Another important milestone in the Ontos history has been reached today. Ontos has been selected amongst others as a partner inside the SAP Industry Value Network, especially in the area of public security. Ontos and SAP have developed for the SAP Public Security solution a prototype which allows to visualize information in the master data, especially from the CRM system. The solution is targeting police forces, investigation units and intelligence agencies. The solution was build on the SAP NetWeaver platform and Ontos has used the Tais/Ontos solution set for the integration. Ontos will also contribute with their knowledge in the field of semantic web technologies, especially in the area of automatic information extraction from text. The SAP IVN ecosystem shows the importance of this industry area and first customer successes have been realized. The IVN team will be meeting on regular base to exchange knowledge and market trends for public security.
